The majority of guys from the UK could not live without, in some way, becoming involved with Football.  Those serving the RAF on Gan were no exception and most of the working sections at the staging post managed to put together a football team.  This picture shows one member of the Riggers team with some loyal supporters.  Most of the matches played were not of 90 minutes duration but shortened to 30 minutes each half.  In temperatures that, in the daytime could range from around 85°F to well over a 100°F, then this was the only sensible thing to do.  This did nothing however to diminish the hostile rivalry between the various sections players to be top of the Gan Football league.
